Inspired by Justin Gerrard's blending of traditional and digital techniques I thought I would try my hand at a digital grade of this illustration. By separating the foreground and background elements to different layers I was able to blur the background and drop its opacity to bring the foreground figures into sharper relief. I also dropped in some god rays and a bit of foam at the bottom of the nondescript waterfalls.
For the foreground elements I pushed the shadows and highlights and added a subtle spotlight effect coming down from the top-right which darkens the left-hand side. I also dropped the saturation a fraction to balance the greater contrast between the foreground and background. Finally, I added a thin stroke to the faces of Aragorn and Arwen as the ink lines had faded inconsistently after the addition of the watercolours.
Was it worth it? I don't feel I have created anywhere as eye-catching a change as Justin manages with his digital grade but I think it makes a difference. But is it a good difference? Would love to know what other people think.
Oh lalala! It reminds me of my love! We all have love in our lives. I guess what makes love original is not what we say to the other but what we do with the other person we love. Love can be romantic and can shake our hearts to the fullest. When it is a medieval love, we can feel more romantism and politness. I guess we all dream one day of a person that we could kiss tenderly and be with her or him all our life. In this image you truly touch the soul of my love and others as well. It is a great conception!
I'm just letting you know that I've featured this awesome artwork in my journal this week: [link]
Thank you for creating one of my very favorite images here on dA!!! If for any reason you would rather not be included in this journal entry, please let me know and I can remove your image ( but I'm warning you: if you do that, I will cry ). Otherwise, I look forward to seeing what else you create! ~Ellen, Giver of Giant Cookies!
