Some of you may know that this is My Year of The Hobbit, thanks largely to a little project that I am undertaking with my good friends Ben (ironhenry) and Tere (terepalomitis).

It has been a while since I have posted something here so I thought I would show off my pencils for the first illustration in, hopefully, a long series all dedicated to my favourite children's book of all time: The Hobbit. I'm still undecided whether to finish this off as a properly rendered pencil drawing, add ink to it or (time permitting) add colour to it. Which ever way I go I will update this illustration when I have something else to show.

** More updates - a brief spell in Hobbiton tonight... very pleasant indeed :)

** Finally, a half-decent scan... this one after putting down some ink outlines. Still had to stitch it together though so it's a little fuzzy in places. But it will do for now. Colours next!

In Photoshop (or P Elements) you can stitch things up automatically with the panorama function. Much quicker than the old hand made method I used to do.
That's how I scan my art that now measures about 50 x 70 cm (need eight pieces)

No problem.

BTW, if you still need to adjust by hand, set the transparency of the top layers to about 60% then you can see exactly where things should be. Once it's ok, go back to 100% and erase the "wobbly" parts.

But the automatic feature is quite good now.

It worked an absolute treat first time for me. Granted it was only two pieces requiring a minor alignment but it still saved me considerable time.
